Pat was born on June 21, 1925, the youngest child of James M. Patterson and Nora (Meadows) Patterson on their family farm near Temple, Oklahoma. Immediately after graduation from Temple High School, at the age of 17, with World War II in progress, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy. Pat was assigned to the USS General R. M. Blatchford, which was part of the largest amphibious operation during the war. He served in both the Pacific and European campaigns. Upon discharge in 1946, he returned to the farm, where he met Cliffogene Masoner from Hastings, Oklahoma. They married on March 17, 1946. He left the farm and went to work in his brother’s service station. Shortly after that he took a job in Stroud. Not long after, he went to work for Halliburton, moving six times in six years. In 1958 he was moved to Woodward. Pat left the energy service business upon being transferred again. He and Cliffogene became partners in the Palomino Restaurant and Steakhouse. During that time, Buddy Reiger offered him a position, and he became the manager of the Woodward Livestock Auction Market. In 1965, he went to work for the Stock Exchange Bank until his retirement on December 31, 1985. He was a Loan Officer, Vice President, Senior Vice President and on the board of directors before retiring. He received a degree in banking from Louisiana State University in 1974.
He was and a member of the First Baptist Church. Pat loved Woodward and immersed himself in city and community activities. Pat belonged to Lions Club, Elks Lodge, and was a Masonic Mason. He belonged to the Chamber of Commerce, serving as Treasurer. He was on the economic development committee for many years and serving as director of the United Way Fund Drive. He served two terms on the Woodward Memorial Hospital Board and was treasurer. He enjoyed working “The Fourth of July Celebrations” at Crystal Beach each year. Upon retirement, they traveled with friends and went on cruises. Soon they became more entrenched in traveling with family and friends in Arizona and New Mexico during the colder months – playing bridge at every stop. Pat and Cliffogene moved from Woodward in 1988 to Watonga to be closer to family. Pat loved these years as they could follow all of the grandkid's activities. In 2001 they moved to Oklahoma City. In 2012, Pat and Cliffogene made their final move into Concordia Living Center, where they lived until their passing.
