Leonard Duane McFarland was born on March 3, 1933, to Leonard Wayne and Hattie Mae (Koons) McFarland in Gage, Oklahoma. He peacefully passed away in Woodward, surrounded by family.
He grew up on a farm southeast of Gage, Oklahoma, and graduated from Gage High School in 1952.
In 1953, Leonard was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country until 1955, including being stationed in Japan. He held the rank of Private and was honored with the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On February 9, 1954, Leonard married the love of his life, Patsy Louise Sober, at the Presbyterian Church in Woodward, Oklahoma. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and cherished traditions.
After returning from Japan, they moved to Wichita, Kansas, where Leonard was employed by Boeing from 1954 to 1959. During this time, they welcomed their first daughter, Kathi, in 1957. In 1959, they moved south of Fargo, where they welcomed their second daughter, LaRita. They later moved to Woodward in 1962.
While living in Woodward, Leonard was baptized at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. He worked for ONG and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of work, he found great joy in ranching, hunting, watching basketball, and, most of all, attending his children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's sporting events and rodeos. Being present for his family's milestones and accomplishments brought him immense happiness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Hattie McFarland, and his beloved wife, Patsy Louise McFarland.
