LOITZ ELDON MYERS (L.E.), 96-year-old Woodward resident, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017. He was living in Edmond at Bradford Village at the time of his death.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 30, at 10:00 a.m., at Crown Heights Baptist Church. Daniel Castor will officiate the service. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Billings Funeral Home on Monday, May 29, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will also be a receiving of friends and family on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
L.E. was born January 25, 1921 to George William Myers and Mina Hazel (Flood) Myers. He was born one mile south and one mile west of Cestos. He attended school in the area. While attending school in Bloomfield and Richmond, he played basketball; he played third base for the baseball team and ran track. L.E. won the Dewey County Spelling Bee in the spring of 1930 and 1931.
L.E. served his country during World War II in Okinawa, Japan. He served as a Military Policeman. He was recently honored for his service by Good Shepherd Hospice.
He was a member of the Vici Rodeo Club and the Woodward Elks Rodeo. He enjoyed riding in the parades and participating in some of the events.
L.E. married Cora Lee (Morgan) Myers on July 16, 1947, in Miami, Texas. They had two children, Barbara Ann (Myers) Dooley and Eldon Lee Myers. The family made their home in Vici until September of 1955, at that time they moved to Woodward.
L.E. began hauling cattle and worked wheat harvest at an early age. He hauled many livestock across the United States. He had his own trucking business until he retired at the age of 70. He spent many long hours at the Woodward Sale Barn. Grandchildren loved going to the sale with him.
L.E. is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Myers) Dooley of Edmond, Daughter in law, Cathi Myers of Woodward, grandchildren, Kurt Myers of Enid, Lisa Ashford and husband, Jeff of Edmond; Brad Dooley and wife, Brooke of Bixby; Amanda Hartness of Woodward; Andrea Sink of Woodward. Great-grandchildren Andrew Myers, Clayton Akerman, Bailey and Colton Nutter, Joshua and Sara Ashford, Taylor, Tanner, Aryn, and Cooper Dooley. Many nieces and nephews.
L.E. was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Hilda (Myers) Hunter and husband, Cecil (Bob) Hunter; sister, Marilla (Myers) Castor and husband, Leon Castor; brother, Warren Myers and wife, Alta Mae (Williamson) Myers; son Eldon Myers
Loitz (“Papa”) and family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Bradford and Good Shepherd Hospice. They took amazing care of my dad and grandfather to our children.
