DOUGLAS MAUPIN

9 Sep 1930 - 30 Aug 2011

Woodward, Okla. — Douglas Maupin, 80 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Woodward. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the United States Army providing military graveside rites. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Wayne Douglas Maupin was born on September 9, 1930 in Mutual, Oklahoma to Eddie Lorraine and Frances Marian (Stimmel) Maupin. Doug was reared in Mutual and Woodward and attended school there. He was united in marriage to Doris "Evelyn" Highfill at the First Baptist Church in Woodward, Oklahoma on May 20, 1950. They made their home at 618 9th Street in Woodward and continued living there for over 60 years. Doug was inducted into the United States Army in 1952 and served his country in the Military Police until being honorably discharged in 1954. Doug worked at Pantoram Cleaners and the Woodward Movie Theater in the 1940's. Doug was one of the ushers at the theater the night the tornado came through Woodward in 1947. He owned and operated A& D Shade and Tile company with his brother-in-law, Alvin Highfill. In the late 1960's, Doug started OKTV and continued running his business for over 30 years with his wife Evelyn. He was also the Woodward County Civil Defense Director for 20 years.

Doug was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and along with his wife Evelyn was very involved in the church. Doug loved going to the lake, fishing and being with his friends and family.

He is survived by his three daughters, Penny Meadows and husband Billy of Fulshear, Texas, Sue Ann Hogue and husband Russ of Edmond, Shelly Wood and husband Patrick of Amarillo, Texas; one brother, Stimmel Maupin and wife Jeannie of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Shyla Funk, Tara Clark, Billie Meadows, Rusty Hogue, Mendy Shepherd, Dustin Hogue, Amy Wood; seven great-grandchildren, Sage Clark, Selby Funk, Kyra Funk, Blayre Meadows, Austin Hogue, Tyler Hogue, Miles Shepherd; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alvin Highfill and wife Kathy of Woodward, Gordon Highfill and wife Evelyn of Dallas, Texas; his great aunt, Edith Morgan of Mutual; numerous other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Billy Dean Maupin, one sister, Mary Francis, one nephew Rickie Maupin, and his great-granddaughter, Saria Clark.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
