Interment: 11:00 AM Saturday, January 9th, 2016 - Elmwood Cemetery Venita Matthews, 76 year old Woodward resident died Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, January 9, 2016 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jesse Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Venita Iris Matthews was born on August 8, 1939 in Wheeler, Texas the daughter of James and Katy (Ivy) White. Venita spent her early years in Spearman, TX where she attended school, graduating from Spearman High School. Venita was united in marriage to James Edward Matthews on December 22, 1966 in Clayton, New Mexico and made their home in Perryton, Texas. Venita and James moved to Woodward shortly after being married and have resided here since. Venita and James worked for Jerry Pinkley, JD Hodges, National Carrier Trucking, and Lanes Motor Freight.
Venita was actively involved in her families lives, she enjoyed attending family gatherings, her grandchildren’s activities, working in her yard and taking care of her dogs. She also spent time riding her Goldwing Trike, fishing and traveling.
Venita is survived by one son, Rick Randall and wife (her favorite daughter-in-law) Candy of Woodward; two daughters, Patsy Valentine and husband Lane of Weatherford, TX; Brenda Lair and husband Randy of Weatherford, OK; six grandchildren, Michael Valentine; Josh Randall and fiancé Harley Mayne; Michelle Agan and husband Derek; Christina Roberts and husband Chad; Miranda Buchanan and husband Alex; Jarrod Randall and wife Whitnie; six great-grandchildren, Ryan Valentine; Tristan Randall; Callen Agan; Abbagail Agan; Aidan Buchanan and Andrew Buchanan; several nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; sister, Laquita Eller and her husband Bobby.
