Gary Allison Lawson

Gary Lawson, 87 year old Woodward resident, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 in Woodward. Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Nathan Twyman officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gary Allison Lawson was born on April 28, 1933 in Laverne, Oklahoma to William Jasper and Martha Ellen (Smith) Lawson. He grew up on the family farm near Laverne and Buffalo and graduated from Ft. Supply High School. Gary continued his education at OSU-IT, where he trained as a mechanic. He was united in marriage to Wilma Marie Stipp on August 17, 1952 in Woodward, Oklahoma and they were blessed with three children: David, James, and Pam. They made their first home in Woodward and also lived in Tulsa and Oklahoma City before moving back to Woodward. Gary worked at Ford Tractor Company, Bosch Electric, and he was the owner of Woodward Wheel Alignment.

He served on the Woodward Municipal Airport Board for over 20 years. He loved to fly and would fly anywhere, anytime. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Wings of Hope Ministry. Besides building airplanes he enjoyed building motorcycles. Gary loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Gary was an avid football and baseball fan and he loved to watch car races and he was always watching The Weather Channel.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wilma Lawson of the home; two sons: David Lawson and wife Carolyn of Woodward, James Lawson and wife Julie of Ada; one daughter, Pam Vreeland of Tulsa; one brother Lynn Lawson and wife Sharron of Oklahoma City; grandchildren: Paula Nicole Jackson, Laine Elizabeth Walters, Peggy Bussinger, Rikki Steward, and Jim Stewart; great-grandchildren: Rylee Jackson, Isaiah Jackson, Zachary Ramirez, Sophee Bussinger, Destiney Stewart, Hunter Stewart, Kelsey Stewart, and Kaley Stewart; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Gordon Lawson and Elbert Lawson.
