Dwight was the oldest of five children born to John and Reva (Atkinson) Latta. He entered the world minutes before his identical twin brother Ernest on January 20, 1932 at home on the family farm north of Fargo. He attended and graduated Fargo High School where he played basketball and baseball and was a member of FFA.
His love of agriculture was seeded early in life with horses, cattle and farming. He followed this passion and attended Oklahoma State University for one semester before enlisting in th Navy. Both Dwight and Ernest served on the U.S.S. Marshall during the Korean War.
While stationed in San Diego, California, Dwight married the love of his life Wilma Sue Garrett of Fort Supply. They lived in Long Beach, California for only a few months before his deployment. After his service, the couple moved to Stillwater where Dwight completed his Bachelor's in Agriculture Mechanics. He then completed a Master Degree in Education.
They moved to Fort Supply for his first job as Vocational Agriculture instructor. He then served as Superintendent. After his career in education Dwight began a career in sales and he truly loved selling everything from class rings to machinery and equipment. Finally, he settled back into farming and ranching and continued well into his 80's.
He was passionate about education and was extremely proud to have been instrumental in bringing the Vo-Tech school to Woodward. Dwight served on the board of directors for several terms and encouraged many young people to attend..
Dwight was initiated into the Mason Lodge No. 254 in 1966. He proudly continued his membership for 57 years.
Dwight and Sue raised three sons on the family farm outside of Fort Supply. John Bryan, Rodney Dean and William Kent. Each of them learned a strong work ethic driving tractor, raising pigs and growing up in FFA. Dwight was right there to give advice, whether playing sports or driving a hog in the show ring. That continued with his grandchildren as well, when it was normal to see three generations of Latta's coaching and driving at the hog shows. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids in all school events.
Dwight and Sue celebrated 71 years of marriage and experienced their family expanding to include fifty-two. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, John and Reva Latta; brother, Ernest Latta; sister-in-law, Dorothy Latta; sister , Joyce Latta Hamilton; father and mother-in-law, Jennings and Bessie Garrett; sister-in-law, Mildred Garrett; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Laura Garrett.
