WOODWARD - The funeral for Raymond Henry Irwin, 90, will be at 10 a.m. today at the First Christian Church in Woodward. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Zwanziger Funeral Home.
He was born Nov. 6, 1905, on a farm north of Woodward, Oklahoma Territory, to Edward Henry and Mary Hortense Johnson Irwin and died Saturday, March 9, 1996, along with his wife, Thelma, as a result of an automible-train accident. He graduated from Woodward High School and worked as a bookkeeper for Western Union Telegraph Company, later as a clerk for MK&T Railroad.
On April 20, 1928 he married Thelma Belle Proctor at Rocky Ford, Colo. They settled in Woodward where they had lived the past 67 years. He was an agent for Texas-Oklahoma Freight Trucking lines and later worked for the Water Department for the city of Woodward. He was an active member and officer of the First Christian Church, AARP, Woodward Senior Citizens and Northwest Oklahoma State Beekeepers Association. He also served as treasurer of the Independent Order of Oddfellows. He was the oldest and longest continous member at 59 years.
Surviving are one son, retired USAF Col. Joseph Thomas Irwin; and two granchildren.
He was preceeded in death by two brothers and two sisters, and one daughter.
