February 20, 1947 ~ May 24, 2024

Hope Hurst, 77-year-old Woodward resident passed away Friday, May 24, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 3, 2024 at the New Horizon United Methodist Church with Reverend Scott Ware officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Glenda Hope Melia Hurst was born on February 20, 1947 in Enid, OK to Glen and Nola (Woods) Melia. Hope grew up on the family farm west of Jefferson where she attended school until her senior year when she transferred to Pond Creek High School for graduation. She continued her education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva where she obtained her Bachelor's in Elementary Education. Hope spent most of her teaching career in Woodward where she touched the lives of first grade students with her humor and warm smile.

She was united in marriage to James L. Hurst on November 24th, 1983 in Fort Supply, OK. They made their home in Woodward for the past 41 years.

Dinner was a special event in the Hurst household where everyone would take a moment to slow down and spend time with each other. She made many tasty dishes, but the one that will be forever remembered is her potato soup.

She cherished her relationships with friends, family, and even strangers. She was happy to lend a listening ear to anyone in need and enjoyed sharing a laugh with old friends. She treasured Memorial Day and enjoyed honoring her much loved family members.

Later in life, her passion was for her dogs, treating them as her own children and referring to them as "the girls".

She is survived by her beloved husband Jim Hurst, three daughters: Jenni Hilbert and husband Drew, Dea Burger, Dena Kowalski and husband Steve; two sons: James E. Hurst and wife Cherie, Chris Hurst and wife Shannon; one sister Phyllis Seibert; 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, countless other relatives and friends.

Hope was preceded in death by her father, mother, Weston, and Nolan.
