Chester Lynn Hendershot was born on Monday, December 21, 1931, in Arkansas City, KS. He passed away at his home in Woodward, OK on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Chester's childhood was spent growing up in the Macomb, OK area and then in Tulsa, OK. He graduated from Tulsa Central High School. Three months short of the age of twenty-one he joined the Army. Chester honorably served in the Army's 2nd Infantry Division and was a dedicated field wireman during the Korean War, being honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the Korean Service medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the ROK (Republic of Korea) Presidential Unit Citation. His commitment to his country was unwavering, and his service is remembered with great honor and respect.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Sydnalea Hendershot; his son, Dwight Hendershot; his daughter, Glendola Isaacs, and her husband, Ed. He was a proud granddaddy to Emily Hendershot, Grace Hendershot, and Andy Isaacs and his wife, Brittany. Chester also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his son, Clayton Hendershot; his parents, Philo and Janie Hendershot; his siblings, Charles Hendershot, Gale Hendershot, Edith Jameson, Elsie Jameson, and Paul Hendershot.
Chester had a passion for reading. His favorite topics to read about were history, historical figures and events, and the military just to name a few. He enjoyed being outdoors in nature, working in the yard, and growing watermelons in his garden. He enjoyed visiting museums. He also had a keen interest in researching family genealogy, which brought him great joy and fulfillment. He was a member of the church softball team for many years and played first base. He enjoyed going to sporting events or watching them on television.
Chester worked for Allied Printers and Publishers and the Tulsa World and Tulsa Tribune newspapers. He worked for Penwell Publishing for 33 years until his retirement in 1997.
He was a lifelong follower of Jesus and took his family to church every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and on Wednesday night. He served for many years as the sound technician at Tulsa Central Church of the Nazarene.
Chester's legacy of love and dedication to his family will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed!
A celebration of his life will be held at the Woodward Church of the Nazarene, 400 Downs Ave, Woodward, OK 73801 on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 10:00 am.
