WILLIAM LEE "BILL" HEMINGWAY

5 Sep 1927 - 30 Jun 2018

William (Bill) Lee Hemingway, 90, went to be with the Lord on Saturday June 30th, 2018. Graveside memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Joe Arledge officiating.

Bill was born to William B. Hemingway and Frances (Anning) Hemingway on September 5th, 1927 in Enid, Oklahoma. He graduated from Enid High School in 1945. He attended Oklahoma A&M (OSU) in Stillwater, Oklahoma until he was drafted into the US Army where he served until he was honorably discharged.

Bill was married to the love of his life, Jean Partido, on Aril 11th, 1953. They resided in Woodward and Enid Oklahoma. They were married for 41 years until her passing.

Bill married his second wife, Mary Martinez, of Lubbock, Texas until her passing.

Bill played professional fast pitch softball as third baseman for the Oklahoma Cowboys. The Cowboys traveled all over the US and Canada playing teams throughout North America. He later enrolled at North Western College where he played football.

Bill worked for the railroad for a short time before making a career working for Southwest Bell until his retirement. Bill refereed football and basketball for over 50 years. He was an active member, and past president, of the Oklahoma Officials Association. He enjoyed sports his entire life with tennis, golf, snow skiing, and bird hunting. He had a lifetime hobby studying Native American history, visiting Indian tribes, and Indian artifact hunting.

He was very active in his church and his community, working with many clubs and organizations over the years. Bill was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Zanesville, Ohio.

Bill's biggest enjoyments in life were God, Family, Sports and OU Football.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Jean (Partido) Hemingway; his second wife, Mary Martinez; his brother, Richard A. Hemingway; and his son, William (Billy) A. Hemingway.

Bill is survived by his son Larry (Kellie) Hemingway of Kingwood Texas; daughter Maria (Ed) Bucknam of Zanesville Ohio; his son Bob (Natalie) Hemingway of Barstow, California; his brother Jim (Holly) Hemingway of Bayfield Wisconsin; his 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Domestic Crisis Center with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
