Michael Derek Hasten was born December 9, 1986 in Woodward, OK to Richard and Joyce Hasten. Michael attended Woodward Public Schools graduating from Woodward High School with the class of 2006. He was active in band and participated in the Classic Bowl.

While in high school he delivered pizza for Pizza Hut where a co-worker encouraged him to apply at William S. Key Correctional Center. At age 19 he became the youngest officer at that time. In his 16 years he was promoted from officer to sergeant to lieutenant at WSKCC. At the closing of WSKCC he transferred to Bill Johnson Correction Center in Alva as lieutenant and recently transferred to James Crabtree in Helena as the training officer. Michael viewed his co-workers as a second family and enjoyed cooking meals for his shift.

Outside of work Michael loved having cook outs, chilling in the hot tub and spending time with his family and fur babies that he considered his children. Michael was truly adored by all kids due to his being a kid at heart. His hobbies included movies, concerts, video games, shooting firearms and throwing axes. He looked forward to going to Florida for Halloween Horror Nights every September and in October, he could be found at various Oklahoma haunts. He enjoyed turning his own home into a haunted house every Halloween for other’s enjoyment.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Hasten as well as grandparents Niles and Maggie Hasten.

He leaves behind wife Sarah Hasten and fur babies Luna, Leia, Ling-Ling and Mira of the home; his mother Joyce Hasten of Woodward; father-in-law Mark Dobrinski of Coldwater, KS; mother-in-law Sandra Dobrinski of Coldwater, KS; brother Ronnie Hasten and wife Shannon of Woodward, sisters Angela Branson of Woodward, Tammy VanderMey and husband James of Woodward; sister-in-law Angela Denney of Coldwater, KS; brother-in-law Jason Dobrinski of Coldwater, KS; as well as his nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

His amazing kindness and generosity will be greatly missed.
