Charlie M. Goin, age 92, died Friday December 7, 2018 in Woodward, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 12, 2018 in the Woodward Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Charlie was born July 18, 1926 on a farm 4-1/2 miles South of Hastings, Oklahoma to Maudie Lea Fitzgerald Goin and Charlie McNeely Goin. After marrying his high school sweetheart Joy J. Hokit in 1944 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, training as a tail gunner till the end of the war. He then served the Haliburton Company diligently for sixteen years as they moved him to Utah, throughout the entire state of Wyoming; Cut Bank, Montana; Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and finally to Woodward, Oklahoma in 1957.
In 1958 he bought the Woodward Trading Post, marking the start of one of Woodwards most successful family businesses that still operates today as Goins Home Furnishings. After creating what is one of Northwest Oklahomas largest furniture stores; he retired from daily operations in 1976. Soon after Charlie embarked on what would become a long and storied career as a Missionary and Humanitarian. Visiting 28 countries, he helped build and fund many Christian churches and efforts throughout the world in countries such as South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
Close to home Charlie never failed to help those in need; providing meals, clothing, coats, and prescription glasses to many a student every year. As a member of Rotary International he participated in many philanthropic endeavors for over thirty years. Proudly playing an instrumental part in the creation of Rotary Park; building the parks sign stone by stone with his own hands, and his instrumental part in creating a Micro-Loans Program for women in poverty in South Africa.
In his later years he filled his days visiting Grace Living Center; known for faithfully walking the centers companion dogs; providing his secret recipe brownies and conversation for all those staying there. As a Hospice volunteer he listened to and read stories to those in their care. For the last 10 years he spent every Tuesday as a docent for the Plains and Pioneers Museum. Where he was known as a lively and knowledgeable tour guide for those lucky enough to attend the museum on those days.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Joy J. Goin. Daughter Dr. Sharon G. Solloway. Son Charles L. Goin and his wife Nancy. Daughter Carolyn J. Foresman and her husband Bill. All of whom currently reside in Woodward, Oklahoma. Seven Grandchildren, twelve Great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Gladys, Jean, and Don. His grandson Brett A. Ladd.
Charlie M. Goin lived a full life. Starting from that small farm in Hastings, Oklahoma he went on to touch countless lives and provide a profound amount of joy around the world. In the hearts of his family and others who also loved him, he will truly be missed as one of this worlds greatest additions. A true humanitarian
