Faye Gentry, 89 year old former Woodward resident died Thursday, December 26, 2019 in Bethany. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, December 29, 2019 in Elmwood Cemetery.
Nella Faye (Abernathy) Gentry was born on December 1, 1930 in Duke, Oklahoma the daughter of Carl Wesley and Annye Pearl (Maples) Abernathy. Faye attended school in Ozark and Altus, graduating from Victory High School in Victory, Oklahoma. She was united in marriage to G.W. Gentry on December 4, 1948 in Altus, where the couple made their home. They were blessed with three boys, Alan Keith; Gregory Wayne; and Michael Todd. Faye began working at a bank in Altus. She and G.W. moved to Woodward in 1958, where she continued in the banking industry working for the Bank of Woodward, retiring after 34 years as Assistant Cashier and Note Department Supervisor. Faye and G.W. also owned and operated Gentry Oil Company in Woodward throughout most of their working career. They took great pride in running a family owned business, and providing the best product to their customers.
After retiring Faye and G.W. moved to Lake Eufaula, where they enjoyed fishing, crafting, puzzles, and reading. Faye volunteered for eight years with the Foster Grandparent Program in Checotah, Harrah, and Edmond Public Schools teaching many elementary grade school children to read. They loved spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Faye was involved with the Business Professional Women, serving on local and state levels. She was first elected on the state level as Treasurer in 1984, and was State President from 1988 through 1989.
She was a charter member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Altus. In Woodward she attended Crown Heights Baptist Church, and the First Baptist Church.
Faye is survived by two sons, Keith Gentry and wife Fonda of Edmond; Todd Gentry of Oklahoma City; daughter-in-law, Debbie Gentry of Woodward; nine grandchildren, Brooke Granger; Zach Gentry and wife Kelley; Hope Kastelic and husband Derek; Amber Frost and husband Matt; Kassidy Keith; Logan Gentry; Blythe Yarborough and husband Trevor; Bailey Gentry; and Kaylyn Gentry; 13 great-grandchildren, Beau; Dax and Duke Granger; Crew and Isla Gentry; Abe and Elliette Kastelic; Noah and Katie Frost; Kolby and Karson Keith; Kinlee Lintner; and Elowen Gentry; sister, Nova Hankins; sister-in-law, Pat Abernathy; several nieces; nephews; other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, G.W. in 1998; one son, Gregory Wayne (Bub) Gentry in 1989; three brothers, Carl Jr.; Cecil; and Chester; two sisters, her twin Laura Maye; and Margaret Imel.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for cancer or heart research with the funeral home accepting the donations.
