James Stephen Geddes

James S. Geddes, 74 year old former Woodward resident, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024 in Enid. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024 at the Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Donnetta Hunter officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Marine Corp.

James Stephen Geddes was born on March 11, 1949 in Oakes, North Dakota to William and Dorothy (Swanson) Geddes. James grew up in Ashland, Kansas before later moving to Woodward. He graduated from Woodward High School. He was inducted into the United States Marine Corp in 1968. James earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, the Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Civil Action Color (1st Class), and the Marksman Rifle Qualification Badge. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1974.

He was united in marriage to Beverly Piper on December 17, 1981 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Woodward before moving to Odessa, Texas, New Port Beach, California before settling back in Woodward. James worked in the oilfield for over 38 years and later worked as a driver for Woodward News. He enjoyed woodworking, decorating his lawn for the holidays, and being with his family, especially his wife Beverly.

He is survived by a son William Geddes and wife Roxanne; grandchildren: Russell Heller, Ashley Annuschat and husband Matt, William P. Geddes, Jennifer Geddes, Joshua A. Geddes, and Ariana Gonzalez; three great-grandchildren: Rain Annuschat, Raiden Annuschat, and Rafe Annuschat; one brother, David Geddes; brother-in-law, Larry Lee; son-in-law, Jesse Gonzalez; other relatives and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Geddes, his wife Beverly in 2009, sister-in-law Paula Geddes, daughter Rachel Gonzalez in 2020, brother Phillip Geddes, and sister Susan Lee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Alzheimer's research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
