Phyllis Fields, 97 long time resident of Woodward, Oklahoma and more recently of Oklahoma City passed away, Sunday, July 28, 2024 in Oklahoma City surrounded by her family. Burial will take place at 10:00 am Thursday, August 1, 2024 in the Elmwood Cemetery. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Phyllis Belle (Johnson) Fields was born July 18, 1927 to Hezekiah Foster and Emma Gladys (Winstead) Johnson in Mutual, Oklahoma. Phyllis grew up in Taloga and Woodward. She graduated with the Woodward High School class of 1945. She then attended the Draughan's School of Business. Phyllis was united into marriage to James Lawrence Fields on December 29, 1945 in Higgins, Texas. The young couple then made their first home in Oklahoma City but later moved to the Philippines, Hutchinson, Kansas, Salina, Kansas, and Gladstone, Missouri. After the death of her husband in 1964, she moved back to Woodward to be closer to family.
Phyllis worked as the bookkeeper for Ories and Blackies and later at Wal-Mart. She enjoyed gardening and reading. She loved her children and devoted her life to them. She always loved family gatherings.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Larry Fields and wife Roberta, Phillip Fields and wife Kathy, Tim Fields and husband Eddie Walker; daughters, Connie Fritzler, Jane Stanley and husband Gary; sisters in law, Norma Johnson, Lee Johnson; eight grandchildren, Jon Fritzler, Melissa Nelson and husband Brian, Elizabeth Busse and husband Keith, Christopher Stanley and wife Holly, Meredith Bryant and husband Nick, Chad Fields and wife Bethany, Campbell Walker Fields, Sam Walker Fields; 13 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Lawrence, parents Hez and Gladys Johnson, sister and brother in law, Virginia and Pratt Via, brothers, William Foster Johnson and Robert Parson Johnson, son in law, Ronnie Fritzler and granddaughter in law, Sophia Stanley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to WOOF Pet Rescue with Billings Funeral Home accepting the donations. All donations may be mailed to 1621 Downs Avenue, Woodward, Oklahoma 73801..
