ARVEDA MAY DRAKE

November 24, 1937 - August 3, 2014

Arveda May Drake, formally of Woodward, Oklahoma, passed from this life after a brave battle with cancer, on August 3, 2014, at the age of 76. She was born November 24, 1937, one of six children born to Clarence Edward and Beulah May (Ross) Lynes in Vici, Oklahoma. Arveda attended Vici Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1956. On May 16, that same year, she married the love of her life Darwin Max Drake, at the Church of the Nazarene in Vici. This union was blessed with four children, Darveda, Kenneth, Ricky and Steve.

Arveda was a wonderful sister, wife, and mother. She was always there with her love and support whenever anyone needed her. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially as she became “Grandma” and “Granny Drake”. Through the years she had many craft hobbies and giving them as gifts brought her much pleasure. She enjoyed her weekly “girls night out” with friends from the TOPS club.

She accepted Jesus as her Savior midlife and was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church at the time of her death. The scripture, Proverbs 31:28, is an apt description of Arveda, “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”

Arveda was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Darwin, parents Clarence and Beulah Lynes, and two brothers Wayne Evert and Donald Eugene Lynes.

She is survived by her daughter, Darveda Arnett and husband Allen of Midland, TX; three sons Kenneth Drake of Woodward, OK, Ricky Drake and wife Traci of Harmon, OK, and Steve Drake and Julie Gage of Woodward, OK; six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; brother Charles Edward Lynes of Harmon, OK; two sisters, Wilma “Willy” Day and Wanda Marie Riseley both of Vici, OK; other relatives and many friends.
