Kathleen Dougherty, 91-year-old Woodward resident, died May 3, 2025 in Woodward surrounded by her family. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025 in the Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Karen Rogers officiating.
Kathleen Mae Dougherty was born to William and Kathryn White in Natoma, Kansas on May 29, 1933. She was the youngest daughter with four sisters, Eloise, Elaine, Elizabeth, and Wilma and a younger brother, Richard. Kathleen was preceded in death, by her husband John Dougherty, parents, sisters, brother, and son-in-law, Jackie Miller.
Kathleen was born and raised in Natoma, Kansas. She played basketball throughout school and loved to dance. She reminisced about tending dances in many small towns around Natoma every Saturday night. Kathleen married the love of her life on March 17, 1951 in Hays, Kansas. On March 16, 1953 their first child a girl, Teresa was born; then Leslie on May 26, 1955; Nelson on June 20, 1959; and Joni on September 15, 1962. Kathleen was an accomplished seamstress making most of her kid's clothes while they were growing up and making homemade jelly. Her kids and grandkids were especially fond of her homemade cinnamon rolls. Kathleen was also an avid golfer. She and John were members of the Twin Hills Golf and Country Club and then River Oaks Golf Club both in Oklahoma City. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Oklahoma City.
Kathleen and John moved several times during his career with Hughes Tool Company. They lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Hill City, Kansas; Liberal, Kansas; Great Bend, Kansas; Woodward, Oklahoma; and back to Oklahoma City in 1975. In 2015, they moved back to Woodward, Oklahoma.
She is survived by three daughters: Teresa Vassar and husband Ron, Leslie Miller and special friend Jackie Wilson, Joni Welch and husband Keith; one son Nelson Dougherty and wife Joni; eleven grandchildren: Tara Cosby and husband Mike, Rustin Vassar and wife Pennye, Dana Crawford and husband Gerald, Jaron Miller and wife Randi, Josh Miller, Kolby Dougherty and wife Lindsey, Drew Dougherty, NaTasha Welch, Shane Welch and wife Hannah, Brooke Welch, and Cole Welch; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
