Dorthy Denney, 96 year old Woodward resident, passed away, Thursday, November 20, 2014 in the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Dorthy Lee Pierce Denney was born on January 30, 1918 in Piedmont, Oklahoma to Edcar and Pearl Pierce. She was reared in and around the El Reno and Duncan Oklahoma areas. She graduated from Duncan High School in 1935. Dorthy was very musically inclined, singing in the girl’s choir, mixed choir and the high school girl’s quartet. Dorthy was united in marriage to Raymond Denney on September 24, 1937 in Pittsburg, Kansas with her father officiating. Witnessing the ceremony were Raymond’s brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Lorrisse Denney. They were blessed with an incredible marriage which lasted 72 years.

They made their first home in County Line, Oklahoma and lived in several towns including Gainesville and Littlefield, Texas, and Ardmore, Duncan, Sulphur and Cyril before moving to Woodward in 1990 to be near family.

Dorthy and Raymond enjoyed camping out with family and members of the Good Sam Club. They traveled for many years to Aransas Pass, Texas in the winter and Questa, New Mexico in the summer spending a great deal of time fishing and sharing their catch with friends and family. Dorthy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and working on crafts of all kinds. She was an excellent cook and home maker. In her latter years, one of her greatest pleasures was sitting in front of the television watching her favorite basketball team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. She is survived by two daughters, Pat Reese of Woodward; Marion Hopkins and husband Denny of Woodward; one son Roger Denney of Comanche; eight grandchildren, Theron Kinney, Marlin Kinney and wife Kim, Tracy Favorite and husband Verlyn, Shannon Dills and husband Nathan, Wendy Evans and husband Chris, Amanda Owen and husband Jeff, Ginger Bledsaw, Robert Denney; 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ruth Tinkle and Leota Shirley and two brothers, Grover Pierce and Norvin Pierce.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Benevolent Fund with the Billings Funeral Home, 1621 Downs Avenue, Woodward, OK 73801 accepting the contributions.
