Charlene Day, 78 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, August 20, 2019 in Vici. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2019 at the Elmwood Cemetery with David Heflin officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Charlene Kay Edwards was born, the last of the four children, on May 28, 1941 to Vernie Martin (Brock) and Opal Faye (Carey) Edwards. She grew up north of Woodward alongside her siblings, Junior, Charlotte, and Dean. Charlene spent her childhood spending time with her friends, family, and attending Fort Supply Schools where she graduated with the Fort Supply High School Class of 1959. Following her graduation from high school she moved to Enid, Oklahoma for a time where she attended beauty school with her cousin/close friend Darlene.Charlene was united in marriage to Edwin (Jack) Day on July 17, 1961 and they made their home in Woodward. Together they raised their five children Perry Lynne, Torry Dayne, Edwina Kay, Edward Ray, and La Vonda Gail. Charlene and Jack were life long members of VFW and VFW Ladies Auxiliary and she served as the President of the Woodward Ladies Auxiliary from 1968-1969. She had many careers over the course of her life but her position at the Woodward County Department of Human Services, where she worked from 1998-2012, was very dear to her heart.
Charlene had an avid passion for music, dancing, reading western novels, and watching westerns on TV. Some of her favorite times were spent out at the dances with her husband and listening to a variety of country music artists, including her favorite, George Strait. Charlene was always there to help anyone in need. Spending time with her family was what brought her the most joy to her life and she was never happier than when she was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and the rest of her extended family.
Charlene is survived by her two daughthers, Edwina Porter and husband Randy of Woodward, La Vonda Day of Woodward; three sons, Perry Day and wife Misty of Guthrie, Torry Day of Shattuck, and Edward Day and girlfriend Misty of Alva; six grandchildren, Kaleb Porter, Torry Day, Jack Day, Anthony Aho and wife Brandy, Myklayn Day and Dannet Day; five great-grandchildren: Tatum, Haeli, Henry, Aliya, and Declan; one great-great-grandchild Theodore; and many other loved friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Day; parents, Brock and Opal Edwards; siblings, Vernie (Junior) Edwards, Charlotte Freeman, Verlin Dean Edwards; nephew, Mark Freeman; and one grandson, Korry Day.
