Service Tuesdayfor Melvin Crowl

Walter Melvin Crowl, 61, died Saturday morning in a Garden City hospital following a month's illness.

Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the First Baptist church of Scott City in charge of the pastor, Rev. G. Estel Hines. Pallbearers were Everett Thomas, Fred Patton, Don Cook, Robert Deragowski, Leonard Henry and Jim Talley. Interment was in Elmwood cemetery at Woodward, Okla.

Mr. Crowl was born Feb. 6, 1905 at Little River. He was united in marriage to Mary Scott on Sept. 22, 1926 at Garden City. They moved to a farm in Scott County where they lived until 1935, when they moved to Woodward. They returned to Scott City in 1958 and he had been employed by the county highway department.

Survivors are the widow; a son, Donald, who is employed on Okinawa; a daughter, Mrs. J. V. (Wanda) Austin of Friend, and three grandchildren.

Mary Crowl Dies in Oklahoma

Mary M. Crowl, 90, died in the Woodward(Okla.) Nursing Center on Wednesday, Jan 28, 1998. She was the sister of Nellie Sharpe of Scott City.

Born April 16, 1907 in Scott County, the daughter of Joe T. and Mertie ( Bush ) Scott, she was married to Walter Melvin Crowl on Sept.22, 1926 in Garden City. Upon the passing of her husband in August 1966, Mrs. Crowl went to work as a cook at the Shallow Water school for eight years, working with her daughter, Wanda. In 1975 she moved to Woodward.

She was a member of the United Methodist church, and belonged to the Better Homes HDU in the 1940's.

Surviving are her son, Donald of Woodward; daughter, Wanda of Woodward; sister, Nellie Sharpe, Scott City; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Billings Funeral Home chapel, with Pastor James Shires and Bob Madsen officiating. Burial followed in the Elmwood cemetery.

Attending the services from Scott City were Nellie Sharpe, Vivian, C. J., Harley, Harry and Hiriam Sharpe and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Sharpe and daughters, Diana and Deean, and Mr. and Mrs. John Sharpe, of Loveland, Colo.
