Donald "Donnie" Crain

Donald Gene Crain, Jr. 72 year old Woodward resident, passed away on January 31, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2023 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Donnie was born to Donald Gene Crain, Sr. and Ila Ruth (Woods) Crain on August 22, 1950, in Cherokee, Oklahoma. Donnie was raised on a farm near Goltry, Oklahoma and attended Goltry schools. Donnie graduated with the last class from Goltry High School in 1968. After high school, Donnie attended Northwest Oklahoma College in Alva and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science.

After college, Donnie moved to Mooreland, Oklahoma to begin his law-enforcement career at the Woodward County Sheriff's Office. He served as a deputy for 4 years. During this time period, he moved to Woodward. Then, he served as an investigator for the Woodward County District Attorney's office for 2 years. In 1978, Donnie began a career with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. After 20 years of service with the OSBI, he retired in 1998 as the Director of the Woodward office.

After a few years of relaxing and raising and competing on cutting horses, Donnie went back to work. He worked for the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's office and had a brief stint with OKDHS. But law enforcement came calling again when Donnie became an agent with the Oklahoma Department of Agricultural. He retired again in 2015.

Donnie had many things he loved over the course of his life. He loved being with friends and family, especially on holidays. He loved the camaraderie with his fellow officers. K-Bobs coffee in the afternoons with buddies was one of his favorite pastimes. He had many titles throughout his life, but his favorites were "Best Buddy," "Papa," and "Uncle D." He will be greatly missed by many friends and family.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Tracy Dawn.

He is survived by his son, Travis Crain and wife Abbi; two granddaughters, his Lil Darlin', Lyric Crain and his Lil Sweetheart, Sidney Crain; his sisters, Cheryl Fore and husband Roy, and Diane Mason and husband, Butch; his brother, Tim Crain and wife Debbie; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial Fallen Officers Fund with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
