Dora Louise Cook (nee Lumley) joined the Lord and family that has gone before her, on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016.

She was born Jan. 29, 1932, to Fred and Zella Lumley in Little. She attended school in Seminole and Shawnee and took classes at Oklahoma Baptist University.

Hugh Gene Cook, her beloved husband, took her as his bride on Dec. 2, 1950. Their nearly 66 year marriage took them to Duncan, Shawnee, Seminole, Lindsey, Liberal, Kansas, and Woodward. Upon arriving in Woodward in August of 1966 with their two children, they decided this was the perfect place to raise their family and become part of the community and church.

She is survived by her husband, of the home, their son, Michael Gene Cook (Jeffie Jo deceased) of Woodward and their daughter, Janice Gail Carson (Keith) of Cleveland Ohio. They were so blessed to have her in their lives. She was a loving wife and mother. No task was too great for her to accomplish! She was an excellent chef, seamstress and nurturer. While serving gourmet meals she would often say ‘hope this is fit to eat!’

She experienced great joy and pride with all seven of her grandchildren. They each hold a special place in their hearts for their Mana! They are Jared Estes (Megan)of Kingwood, Texas, John Estes (Erin) of Cleveland, Ohio, Justin Estes (Rachel) of Clayton, California, Rhett Carson (Brooke) of Clinton, Pennsylvania, and Sean Carson of Seattle, Washington, Alexis Combs (Brent) and Lucas Cook, both of Woodward. They all remember playing games, car trips, vacations, hanging out on the patio/pool and being swatted by her treasured flyswatter, that was always close at hand. Oh, and don’t forget the crepes, homemade ice cream and cobblers.

She is leaving behind sixteen great-grandchildren: Taylor, Kylee, Sydney, Alexa, CJ, Mason, Cameron, Nikki, Jackson, Brynn, Jameson, Cayden, Lily, Carson, Aubrey and Harper so her legacy will live on for years to come. Many times she would say ‘Gene, just look what we started!’

She is also survived by her sister, Geneva Coates of Oklahoma City, as well as extended family and close friends.

One of Louise’s greatest pride and accomplishments was her service to the Lord. She established the prayer room at the First Baptist Church and worked tireless hours serving this ministry, for several years. She was known, by many, for her great depth of knowledge, in God’s word. She was a faithful follower and is now at the feet of God.

She was an extraordinary bridge player and enjoyed the friendships, of many, while circled around the table. She was known as a great conversationalist and took pleasure in welcoming newcomers, as the representative for Woodward’s Welcome Wagon. Her hobbies included sewing where she created beautifully designed clothes for her daughter, Halloween costumes for her grandchildren and the occasional perfect piece for herself. She had a love for the ocean and travel. Her family enjoyed many trips to the Caribbean where they came together and took pleasure in the love and fellowship that she so greatly treasured. One of her fondest memories was being able to go into the ocean, with the help of her family. Everyone appreciated her sense of humor and enjoyed the lazy evenings by the pool, listening to her vast collection of her favorite tunes.

She suffered, for over forty years, with crippling Rheumatoid Arthritis but chose to live her life with poise and style. She never let it stop her from enjoying family and the friends,that had the privilege, of knowing and loving her.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
