Bernice Clingenpeel, 85 year old Woodward resident, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020 in Enid. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2020 at the Woodward Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Bernice Joyce (Schlegel) Clingenpeel was born on June 8, 1935 in Otis, Kansas to Daniel and Pauline Katherine Schlegel. She grew up in Hoisington, Kansas and graduated from Hoisington High School. On September 28, 1954, she was united in marriage to Charles Ray Clingenpeel in Hoisington, Kansas. To this union, three sons and one daughter came to bless their home: Ray, Mark, Kent, and Kristi. The family continued to make Hoisington their home until 1973, when they moved to Woodward.
She was a member of the Woodward Church of the Nazarene and she enjoyed volunteering at the church. Bernice loved spending time with her family. She loved her sports and she was a huge fan of the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Braves, Oklahoma City Thunder, but most of all the OU Sooners. Bernice enjoyed bowling, playing pinochle, doing puzzle books, crocheting dish rags and hangers, painting ceramics, and playing bingo.
She is survived by her sons: Charles Ray Clingenpeel Jr. and wife Linda, Kent Lee Clingenpeel and wife Terri; one daughter Kristi Jo Maxwell and husband Jeff; one sister, Ila Fair and husband Norman; nine grandchildren: Chuck, Jeremy, Jeff, Mark Jr., Mitchell, Amber, Ashley, Codi, and Casey; 16 great-grandchildren: Brandon, Emma, David, Kearston, Preston, Anna, Avree, Ayden, Matthew, Dillon, Zathan, Teagan, Tenley, Miles, McKenlee, and Landry; two great-great-grandchildren, Zaylen and Coraline; other relatives and many friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, one son Mark, sisters, Dee Rogers, Wilma Schlegel and Pat Raybern.
