A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward. To honor Bettie, the family encourages everyone to wear something red, white, or OU. BOOMER SOONER!
Bettie Louise (Hoffman) Casteel was born on August 19, 1929, in Rosston, Oklahoma, to Robert Myron and Mary Elizabeth (Ward) Hoffman. She spent her early years in Rosston and Hesston, Kansas, where she attended Hesston Elementary School. In 1946, Bettie moved to Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School with the Class of 1947. Following high school, Bettie attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Casteel. The couple married on April 13, 1949, and began their life together in Norman. They were blessed with three children: Debbie, Carol, and Mike.
Over the years, the family made their home in several Oklahoma communities, including Bethel and Earlsboro, where they settled in 1953. In 1960, they moved to Oklahoma City before returning to Woodward in 1963, where Bettie continued to build a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family.
Bettie lived a full and remarkable life. She was a survivor of the devastating 1947 Woodward Tornado and dedicated many years to serving others through her involvement with the local food pantry and her role as a poll worker for the Woodward County Election Board. While attending the University of Oklahoma, she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Upsilon Chapter sorority and later served as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
A talented musician and songwriter, Bettie shared her gifts with those around her throughout her life. She also enjoyed a successful career in retail, including many years with Oliver's Apparel. Together with her husband, Bob, she helped build their custom home construction business, contributing to the creation of homes and lasting friendships throughout the community. Bettie found great joy in fishing, sewing, and following University of Oklahoma athletics. A loyal Sooners fan, she especially enjoyed watching football, basketball, and softball. More than any of her hobbies or interests, Bettie treasured time spent with her family, whose love and companionship were her greatest blessings.
Bettie is survived by her three children, Debbie King; Carol Broadus and husband, Chuck; and Mike Casteel and wife, Cherie; eight grandchildren, Suzanne, Rob, Melanie, Becky, Jenny, Kevin, Lauren, and Scott; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Casteel; her parents, Robert M. and Mary E. Hoffman; and one sister, Virginia Lowrey.
