Woodward, Okla. — Wendell E. Brunner, 82 year old Woodward resident, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Jason Dirks will officiate. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery of Woodward. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home of Woodward.

Wendell Eugene Brunner was born on November 23, 1929 at Grant, Nebraska to Walter and Anna Maye (LeMioner) Brunner. Wendell grew up around Lebanon and Grant, Nebraska and graduated from Grant High School. He joined the United States Army in 1949 and fought for his country in the Korean War where he served in the infantry.

On August 21, 1953 Wendell was united in marriage to Joan Mae Springer at Ogallala, Nebraska. To this union three sons were born: Robert, David and Don. Wendell worked in the oilfield services for a number of years moving his family from Nebraska to Colorado, then to Texas. They later came to Oklahoma and in 1969 the family moved to Woodward. Wendell worked for Johnson's Testers / Schlumber J for 30 years as a drill stem tester, where he retired from in 1997. He 1999 he went to work for Woodward Concrete and was there until 2002.

Wendell was an avid bowler and enjoyed spending his Thursday and Friday nights at the Bowling Center playing on a league team. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and race cars, where he had taken part in some winning races. Wendell especially loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren and his many dear friends.

Wendell is survived by his two sons, David Brunner and wife Hope and Don Brunner all of Woodward; a brother Curtis Brunner and wife Kate of Tucson, Arizonia; a sister Mary Ann Kunneman and husband Bill of Imperial, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Stacie Brunner of Woodward, Michael Brunner and wife Michelle of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Angela Brunner of Louisville, Kentucky, Amanda Carpenter of Woodward, and Nick Carpenter of Oklahoma City; three great grandchildren, Sierra, Robbie and Ceion, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Robert, his mother-in-law Dollie and his wife Joan in 2005.
