Jess Ray Brewer, 71 year old Woodward resident and retired Oklahoma State Trooper, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2021 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Donnetta Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Honor Guard providing military honors. The service will be broadcast live on the funeral homes website and Facebook.
Jess Ray Brewer was born on July 11, 1949 in Council, Idaho to Wiley and Evalena (Patton) Brewer. Jess grew up in the Richmond and Mutual area and graduated from Mutual High School. After his graduation he attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Jess was inducted into the United States Army in 1969. He served his country during the Vietnam War and received a Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and was a Sharpshooter in Rifle. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He was united in marriage to Jo Lynne Caldwell in Oklahoma City. They were blessed with one son, Cole.He was accepted into the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and graduated with the 37th graduating class in 1979. Jess was an Oklahoma State Trooper until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the Northwest Oklahoma Model Railroaders Club, the Woodward Elks Lodge #1355, and the American Legion Post #19.
Jess loved spending time with his son, camping, trains, playing cards, and comedy of any form. He is survived by his son Cole Brewer of Choctaw; wife Jo Brewer of Woodward; one brother J.C. Cooley and wife Sandra; one sister Betty Satori and husband Fred; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Elvin Brewer and two sisters, Rita Seaman and Carol Brewer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mutual Fire Department with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
