Dolores Lou (Richardson) Black

Dolores Black, 96 year old Woodward resident, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2026 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Eric Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Dolores Lou (Richardson) Black was born on February 18, 1930 in Buffalo, Oklahoma to Utah Daniel and Lena Mabel (Ferguson) Richardson. She grew up on the family farm in Harper County and attended Buffalo Grade School and Buffalo High School. During her junior year, Dolores had to quit school because she was working nights at the Harper County Cafe and she was falling asleep during school. She later received her GED.

She was united in marriage to Chester Galend "Jack" Black on February 22, 1947 in Ashland, Kansas. To this union one daughter Gwenda "Kay" (Black) Lemaster was born. They made their first home in Buffalo and later moved to Mooreland where Dolores was a Postal Clerk at the Mooreland Post Office. They then settled in Woodward, where she has resided since that time.

Dolores enjoyed bowling, playing cards, ceramics, crocheting, collecting stamps, coin collecting, and she loved going to the casino with her daughter Kay. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family, especially her daughter and grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Utah and Lena Richardson, her husband Chester G. Black, brother Dean Richardson, sisters, Eleanor Dean, Pauline Moore, Velma Matthews, and Thelma Clark, her daughter Kay Lemaster, son-in-law, James Lemaster, grandson Casey Lake, granddaughter Kimberly Lemaster Neal, and sister-in-law Berdena Richardson.

She is survived by grandson, Chad Lake and wife Teresa; granddaughter Carey Lake Welden and husband Shawn; sister Dorothy Cotter; brother James Richardson; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Alzheimer's research with the funeral home accepting the contributions on behalf of the family.
