Frances Benson, 89 year old former Woodward resident, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 in Wylie, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2023 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Donnetta Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Frances Marie (Lochman) Benson was born on January 17, 1934 in Fargo, Oklahoma to Henry Lochman Jr. and Marie Katharina (Feil) Lochman. Frances grew up in Fargo and attended Tangier Schools until the 11th grade before attending and graduating from Woodward High School. She was united in marriage to Leslie Benson on May 29, 1955 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Woodward. Frances worked as a CNA at the Western State Hospital in Fort Supply for years. Leslie preceded her in death in 1965.
She was united in marriage to Harry Waggoner in 1969. They made their home in Woodward. Frances enjoyed gardening and her yard in Woodward was beautifully manicured. She also enjoyed reading, watching sports, especially her children and grandchildren. She was usually calm and quiet, unless she was hollering at Kids Inc. The OU Sooners, Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks were her favorites, especially Dirk Nowitzki. In her younger days Frances loved to dance. Spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren is what she loved the most.
She is survived by her son, Mike Benson and wife Lana; daughter Angie Newell and husband Kenny; five grandchildren: Tiffany (Benson) Alvey and husband Joseph, Kyle Benson, Derek Benson and wife Kelcey, Adam Benson, Katy (Benson) Hiebert and husband Matt; eight great-grandchildren: Taylor Benson, Keaton Short, Khloe Short, Jolene Alvey, Joree Benson, Addy and Easton Benson, and Hayes Hiebert; other relatives and friends.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Oliver Lochman, Luetta Poulson, Gene Lochman, her husband Leslie, son Lewy Benson, and daughter Leslie (Gigi) McAninch.
