Charles Dean Barker

Charles D. Barker, 83 year old Woodward resident, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023 in Oklahoma City, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Woodward with Reverend Steve Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Army.

Charles Dean Barker was born on June 29, 1939 north of Lenora, Oklahoma to Walter Lee and Gladys Marie (Stewart) Barker. He attended Vici schools and graduated from Vici High School in 1957. From 1957 until March of 1958, Charles worked at the Boeing Aircraft Plant. He was inducted into the United States Army in 1958 and was stationed at Darmstadt Germany.

He was united in marriage to Margaretha Bitsch on October 19, 1960 in Darmstadt, Germany. They made their first home in Bensheim, Germany and were blessed with two daughters: Connie and Carol. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he and Margaret moved to Woodward, Oklahoma where they continued living. Charles worked for O.G. & E. as a Diesel Mechanic and later went to work in law enforcement. He retired from law enforcement in 1989 but decided to continue working as the Parks Superintendent for the City of Woodward, retiring in 2005.

Charles was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church and later was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodward. He loved spending time with his family, especially his two daughters and grandchildren. Charles enjoyed seeing how fast he could get a car to run and he loved being in law enforcement.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Barker of the home; two daughters: Connie Terry and husband Curt of Woodward, Carol Liles and husband Stewart of Edmond; three grandchildren: Maggie McTeer and husband Stephen, Cale Terry and wife Kari, and Haley Liles; one great-grandchild, Landyn Terry; two sisters: Louise Swartz and husband Lonnie, Lois Worsham; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Joy Faye and Dorothy, one brother Bill Barker, and great-grandson Reagan

Terry.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
