Marshall L. Austin, 88 year old Woodward resident, died Sunday, April 9, 2017 in the Vici Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Gary Gunsolus officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for visitation.
Marshall Lee Austin was born on December 21, 1928 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to James Edward and Muriel Constance (Fisher) Austin. Marshall grew up in Oklahoma City, Maud, and Shawnee, Oklahoma. He graduated from Shawnee High School with the class of 1946. Marshall was inducted into the United States Navy in 1946. He served his country and was honorably discharged in 1948. After his discharge, he attended Oklahoma Baptist University for two years before transferring to the University of Oklahoma where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1952.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Jeane Canada on June 25, 1954 at the Hazeldell Baptist Church in McCloud, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Edmond and later moved to Woodward in 1960. Marshall worked as a Roughneck during college and he later went to work for Sun Oil Company as an Oil Scout. After moving his family to Woodward, Marshall worked as an Independent Landman in the Oil and Gas Industry.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and was a founding member of the Woodward Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Austin of the home; two sons: Victor Austin; Mike Austin and wife Jamie; four grandchildren, Michael Austin and wife Melissa, Emily Austin, Andrew Austin, Samuel Austin; five great-grandchildren, Lucy Austin, James Austin, Genevieve Austin, Joseph Austin, and Timothy Marshall Austin; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Garner; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn daughter, Marsha Jeane Austin; a brother, James E. Austin, II, and a daughter-in-law, Susan Austin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God Church or the Mercy Hospital, Oncology Department with the Billings Funeral Home, 1621 Downs Avenue, Woodward, Oklahoma 73801 accepting the contributions.
