Woodward, Okla. — Clarence Atwell, 87 year old Guthrie resident and former Woodward resident, died Friday May 11, 2012 in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will be held Monday May 14, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Elmwood Cemetery. The Reverend Tony Barros will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home of Woodward.

Clarence Lee Atwell was born on September 7, 1924 at Mutual, Oklahma to Alfred Madison and Gracie Mary (Smith) Atwell. Clarence grew up in Woodward as part of a very large family of 19 children.

He entered the United States Army on Septermber 14, 1943 and served until February 14, 1946. Clarence was united in marriage to Ethel Mary Lewis on February 6, 1954 and they had 51 years together until her sudden passing in 2005.

Clarence worked for the City of Woodward as a backhoe operator until he retired in 1987. He loved his children and grandchildren and will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his by his parents, his wife and 18 siblings. Clarence is the last surviving child of Alfred and Gracie.

He is survived by his three daughters, Judy Mackey of Paris, Tennessee; Donna Loghry and husband Darrell of Mooreland; Cindy Lemke and husband Brad of Oklahoma City; many loving grandchildren and other extended family and friends.
