Jimmy Lee Gribble

Jimmy L. Gribble, 75 year old Woodward resident, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Dunlap Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Navy. The service will be broadcast live on funeral home website and Facebook.

Jimmy Lee Gribble was born on May 11, 1945 in Borger, Texas to Robert William and Viola Mae (Fowler) Gribble. He grew up in Ashland, Kansas and Coldwater, Kansas before the family moved to Woodward, Oklahoma in 1956. He attended Woodward schools. Jimmy was inducted into the United States Navy in 1965 and served his country during Vietnam. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor and while in the Navy he received his GED. He received the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in 1969.

He was united in marriage to Margene Kamphaus on August 8, 1969 in Canute, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two children, Justin and Tammy. They made their first home in Elk City and later in 1969 they moved to Woodward where they have lived since that time. Jimmy worked for several different companies, including Triad Drilling, Diamond Services and Wild Cat Drilling.

He enjoyed fishing, target practice, and riding his bike, but most of all he loved being with his family. Jimmy loved the times he spent taking care of and playing with his great-grandson Desmond and his daily visits to see him.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margene Gribble of the home; one son, Justin Gribble and wife Allyson of Woodward; son-in-law, Mark Walser of Enid; three grandchildren: Timothy Walser, Desiree Ramirez and husband JR, and Andrew Gribble; one great-grandson Desmond Ramirez and one great-grandchild on the way; two brothers: Tom Gribble and wife Dorma of Blanchard, Larry Gribble and wife Tooter of Woodward; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pat Watson, Mike and Eva Kamphaus, Bobby and Machelle Kamphaus, Donnie Kamphaus, and Janet Kamphaus; other relatives and friends.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Viola Gribble, in-laws, Edward and Ethel Kamphaus, sister Shirley Snider and husband Charles, brothers, William (Link) Gribble and Bill Gribble, and his daughter Tammy Walser.
