The funeral for Waneva A. Parsons, 83, of Cherokee will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the First Baptist Church, Cherokee. The Rev. Tom Cooksey will officiate. Burial will be in Whitehorse Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva.
She was born Sept. 16, 1924, at Catoosa to Samuel Loveless and Eldra Armenta McConkey Butler and died Friday, May 30, 2008, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Enid.
She graduated from Farry High School in 1942. She started working at Douglas Aircraft Plant, Tulsa. She married Fred Parsons Aug. 6, 1947, at Claremore. They made their home in Hallowell, Kan, then moved to Alva. He died Sept. 22, 1976. She worked as a cook at Alva General Hospital, the Washington Grade School. She started working at the Woods County Health Depatment as a home care nurse in 1971, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Carolyn Green of Enid, Rita Smith of Cherokee, Gail Cox and DeeAnn Tidwell, both of Alva; two sons, Carl of Alva and Earl of Piedmont.; two brothers, Dean Butler of Alva, and Jack Butler of Navato, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Fred, she was preceded in death by three sisters, seven brothers, and great-grandsons.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes or Juvenile Diabetes Association.
