ENID, Okla. — Memorial service for Betty Jean Watson will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Waynoka Municipal Cemetery, with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Service is under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home, Alva.
Betty Jean Watson, daughter of the late Marion Frances and Myrtle Violet (Davis) Johnson, was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Okmulgee, Okla., and passed away Friday, June 13, 2014, in Woodward, Okla., at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 16 days.
Betty grew up in Texas.
In 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Ancil Thornton “Chief” Watson. They moved to Waynoka sometime after they were married. She was a great cook and cooked in several restaurants over the years.
As a student of history, she was active in the Waynoka Historical Society. She also was a good writer and poet. She also helped deliver food to the needy.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chief; an infant son, Larry Robinson; one sister, Wanda Cooper; and one great-granddaughter, Marissa Whetstone.
Betty is survived by one son, Larry Watson and wife Inez of Santa Monica, Calif.; daughter, Cherry Sander of Seiling; six grandchildren, Micky Sander and wife Polly of Seiling, Vickie Sander of Seiling, Tracy Sander and wife Maria of Brian, Texas, and Jessica Watson, Helena Watson, and William Watson, all of Santa Monica, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Robert Moss, Christopher Sander, Casey Helterbrake, Dalton Whetstone and Eric Sander; one great-great-granddaughter, Ruby Rose Moss of Mutual; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Waynoka Food Pantry.
