ENID, OK — Graveside service for Ruby Irene Harris will be 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, in Waynoka Municipal Cemetery, with Gene Goben
officiating. Interment is under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of
Waynoka LLC.
Ruby Irene Harris, daughter of the late Chris Henery and Dora Bell (Glover)
Sims, was born June 10, 1921, on the farm just east of Avard, and passed
away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, in Enid, Okla., at the age of 92 years, 3
months, and 14 days.
Ruby graduated from Avard High School with the class of 1939. She worked at
Boeing Aircraft in Wichita.
In April 1945, she was married to Homer Harris in Oklahoma City. They moved
from Wichita to Avard then to Waynoka.
She was a licensed nutritionist and dietician, working for Avard School then
E.P. Clapper Memorial Hospital in Waynoka. She retired in 1986.
She was a member of Avard Christian Church. She enjoyed cooking, bingo,
reading, and gardening.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer, and 10
siblings, Milton Sims, Mary Bergen, Jim Sims, Lillie Murray, Josie Sims,
Rosie Murray, Elsie Martin, Flora Ferguson, William Sims and Hazel Hardesty.
Ruby is survived by three sons, Dan Cornish and wife Pat of Amarillo, Texas,
Dean Cornish of Brownsville, Texas, and Richard Harris and wife Molly of
Enid; five grandchildren, Tommy Cornish of Alba, Texas, Chris Cornish and
wife Lisa of Strang, Okla., Richard Cornish and wife Tanya of Strang, Okla.,
Thomas Harris of Galveston, Texas, and Patricia Harris of Houston, Texas;
six great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; five
stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 13
great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Waynoka EMTs.
