Alfonso Jose “Al” Franco, 81 year old Woodward resident, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Waynoka Cemetery.

Alfonso Jose Franco was born on October 30, 1933 in Waynoka, Oklahoma to Concepcion and RaFaela (Martinez) Franco. Al attended Waynoka schools and graduated from Waynoka High School in 1952. He was inducted into the United States Army on May 23, 1956 and served his country in Fulda, Germany with Company B 1st Battalion Tank Division. Al was honorably discharged in February of 1958.

Alfonso began his railroad career in May of 1956 as a Laborer and worked as a Machine Operator and Foreman. He retired as a Track Supervisor on November 18, 1994 after 38 years of service.

Alfonso loved to play music especially Western Swing, Jazz and Pop. He played guitar and bass for the Garland Wilson Band, the Debonairs, and the Esquires. Alfonso played guitar in Frankie McWhorter band.

On February 28, 1959, he married Jeanette Covalt. To this union they were blessed with two daughters, Pamela and Toni. They have made Woodward their home most of their married life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Tony Franco, Eddie Franco, Albert Franco, Frank Franco, sisters Juanita, Antonia, Esperanza, and Jessie.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Franco of the home; two daughters, Pamela Thompson and husband Bill of Woodward, Toni Burkhart and husband Joe of Woodward; five grandchildren, Nicholas Twyman, Nicole Twyman, Patricia Twyman, Shelby Burkhart, Jessica Burkhart, all of Woodward; seven great-grandchildren, Seth Baird, triplets, Kameron, Kamille, and Colton Lair, Vallen and Kylar Burkhart; other relatives and many friends.
