Waynoka Cemetery


June 26, 1913 - March 23, 1997

Waynoka – The funeral for Opal Marquerrette Curtis, 83, will be at 2 PM Thursday at the Avard Christian Church. The Rev. Jerry Kruckenberg will officiate. Burial will be in the Waynoka Cemetery under direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

She was born June 26, 1913, in Alfalfa County to Alfred Michael and Della Birdie Murray McCoy and died Sunday, March 23, 1997, at Share Medical Center in Alva. She attended the Burlington public school, Oklahoma State University and graduated from the Wichita, Kansas School of Nursing in 1939. She had nursed at Hardtner, Kansas, Woodward and Alva and was a longtime nurse at the E. P. Clapper Memorial Hospital in Waynoka. She retired after 39 years of service.

On March 16, 1943, she married Fred Lynde Curtis at Alva. They lived most of their life in Waynoka. She was a member of the Avard Christian Church and active in Dorcas Circle of the church.

Surviving are two sons, Jack of Elsie, Nebraska, and Danny of Waynoka; one daughter, Marchetta Curtis – Dunn of Enid; seven grandchildren; 11 great – grandchildren; three great – great – grandchildren; two step – children; and two step great – grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, April 22, 1975, and two brothers.
