ENID — Funeral service for Johnny “John” Barker will be 11 a.m. Saturday,
Feb. 16, 2013, at North Garland Church of Christ, Enid, Okla. Gordon Jantz
will officiate. Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in Waynoka Cemetery
under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Robert Shepard will
officiate.
Immediately following the graveside service a celebration of life will be
held at Waynoka Church of Christ. Kevin Cook will officiate. Please share
stories, recall memories and enjoy a meal. All are invited to attend.
Johnny “John” David Barker, 78, longtime resident of Enid, Okla., passed
from this life on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, in Heber Springs, Ark. John was
born Nov. 29, 1934, to Carrie Jane (Camp) Barker and Jess Ray Barker at
their home 12 miles southeast of Waynoka, Okla., on the Aline-to-Waynoka
Road. This event was fondly recalled by John’s sister, Geraldine.
John graduated from grade school in Walnut Grove and later attended Waynoka
High School. He married his lifelong love and fellow baseball fan on Dec. 2,
1950. John and JoAnn Deloris (Camp) Barker were married for 561⁄2 wonderful
years.
Over the years, John was successful in many trades. He worked in 10 states,
building 50 grain elevators. He then worked and retired from the James
Crabtree Correctional Center, located in Helena, Okla.
John went on to hold an Oklahoma Auction and Real Estate Brokers License and
owned Barker Auction Co. with his wife JoAnn in Enid.
In his free time, John enthusiastically coached ball. In McAlester, Okla.,
John coached countless boys in football, basketball and baseball. Other
hobbies he enjoyed included spending time with his family and friends
playing cards and dominos, coaching, quail hunting, browsing flea markets,
and attending American Legion baseball tournaments.
John is survived by six children, Johnny Barker and wife Jan of Amarillo,
Texas, Jesse Barker Sr. and wife Karma of Enid, Okla., Joe Barker of
Oklahoma City, Okla., Jack Barker of Enid, Okla., Jennifer (Barker) Cook and
husband Kevin of Conway, Ark., and Jerry Barker and wife Teresa of Enid,
Okla.; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine
(Barker) Barnett and husband Herman of Cedar Park, Texas; and a host of
nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Barker; brother, Jim Barker and
wife Nona; his father, Jess Ray Barker; and his mother, Carrie Jane Barker.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of John
Barker to North Garland Church of Christ Food Pantry Ministry.
