Waynoka Cemetery


Alva – Carrie F. Baker, 88, died Thursday morning in an Alva hospital. Her funeral will be at 2 PM Saturday in the Alva First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darrel Hardy, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Baker will be buried in the Waynoka Cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Chapel of Alva.

Mrs. Baker was born October 19, 1896, near Homestead, in Blaine County, the daughter of William F. and Jessie Hurt Fisher.

She attended Darrow rural school and graduated from Watonga High School in 1915, then received her teaching certificate from Northwestern State College at Alva. She taught in rural schools in Blaine and Major counties, then in the elementary school at Watonga.

She and Lt. Felix Locke Baker were married May 21, 1921, in her parents home. They lived in a number of places while he was serving in the U. S. Navy. In December 1941, at the beginning of World War II, she came to Alva to make her home.

Mrs. Baker worked at Newman's Music Center until retiring in 1963. She was a member of the Alva First United Methodist Church, the UMW, Sunday School Class, was past Pres. of the Business and Professional Women's Club, past district director of BPW 8th district and a member of the Chrysanthemum Unit of the Alva Garden Club.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Anne Baker of Arlington, Virginia, Zoe Elizabeth Stittsworth of Phoenix, Arizona; a son, Robert Felix Baker of Midland, Texas; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred Fisher of Woodward and Pauline Bartz of Alva.

Memorials may be made to the Alva First United Methodist Church with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
