Enid, OK — Mass of Christian Burial for Frank M. Franco, 80, of Alva, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Alva Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Revs. D. Lawrence and Shane Tharp will officiate. A wake vigil will be 7 p.m. today at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. Burial will be in Alva Sacred Heart Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Waynoka to Rafaela Martinez and C.F. Franco and died Monday, March 3, 2008, at Alva Share Medical Center.
He entered the Army Dec. 19, 1945, at Camp Chafee, Ark., serving in the Pacific Theater, and was discharged June 28, 1947, at Camp Stoneman in California.
He began his railroad career May 6, 1944, as a roundhouse laborer. He transferred to the bridge and building department in 1970, and was promoted to foreman, retiring in April 1989 after 45 years. He was a member of Alva Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Jerri M., of the home; three daughters, Annette Schwerdtfeger of Alva, Sara Lansdown of Edmond, and Elizabeth Macias of Wellington, Kan.; one brother, Al of Woodward; six grandchildren; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by most of his sisters and brothers.
