Enid,OK — The wake for Barry J. Diefenbach, 77, of Alva, will be 7 p.m. today, Dec. 23, 2008, at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. B.B. Laurence will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Alva.
He was born June 21, 1931, in Johnstown, Pa., to Arthur John and Mary Agitha Mohler Diefenbach and died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Alva Share Medical Center, Alva.
He graduated from St. Benedict Catholic High School, Johnstown, in 1948. He worked for the telephone company in Pennsylvania, joining the Air Force in 1950. He served in Korea and was discharged in 1954. He married Geneva Roberts Nov. 12, 1955, in Enid, where they made their home. They moved to Winfield, Kan., then returned to Enid. They then lived in Chickasha, Clinton and Woodward, settling in Alva in 1967. He was a salesman. He was a member of Alva Sacred Heart Catholic Church, former member of Knights of Columbus and Moose Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Geneva; two daughters, Sabrina Moffatt and Mary Herren, both of Alva; four sons, Barry of Farmington, N.M., Rick, Don and Ed, all of Alva; one sister, Jean Good of Johnstown; one brother, Hub of Johnstown; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, diabetes.
