Funeral service for Esther Emilie Margareta Stelling will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Aaron Wagner officiating. Interment will be prior to the service under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.
Esther Emilie Margareta Stelling, daughter of the late Fred and Martha (Dubben) Lohmann, was born Dec. 3, 1919, southeast of Alva, and passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Alva, Okla., at the age of 95 years.
Esther was baptized on Dec. 9, 1919, and confirmed on March 25, 1934, at Zion Lutheran Church in Alva. She attended Zion Lutheran School.
On March 9, 1952, she was united in marriage to Eldor Stelling in Alva, where they farmed southeast of town. To their marriage four children were born.
Esther was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and as a homemaker, she loved to sew and to bake. She enjoyed sewing numerous quilts for the Lutheran World Relief, as well as clothing for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Baking chocolate chip cookies and playing games with the grandchildren brought her joy and delight.
Besides her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Eldor; one daughter, Sharon; a sister, Mildred Lohmann; and a brother, Arnold Lohmann.
Esther is survived by one son, Randy Stelling and wife Kim of Alva; two daughters, Glenda King and husband Rob of Ozark, Mo., and Sandra Brace and husband Mark of Lawton; seven grandchildren, Amanda Nichols and husband Jon of Ozark, Mo., Matthew King of Springfield, Mo., Cody Stelling and wife Merilee of Alva, Trey Stelling and wife Timara of Edmond, Alissa Stelling of Edmond, Michael Brace and wife Whitney of Tulsa, and Kaylee Smith and husband Adam of Lebanon, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Haleigh and Ariana Nichols, Addison and Cooper Stelling, and Baby Smith due in September; in addition to nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made through the funeral home to the Zion Lutheran Church Mission Fund.
