Joan Marie Wagner
February 18, 1939 - September 21, 2021
Joan Marie Wagner, 82, died following a fall in Nashville, Tennessee, at Vanderbilt University Medical September 21, 2021. She was born February 18, 1939, in Alva, Oklahoma, the daughter of William G. Wagner and Margaret (Otti) Wagner.
Joan graduated from Alva High School, class of 1957. Following graduation, she attended Wichita Business College. While in Wichita she met and later married Darrell Doherty and moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where they had two children. Joan also had a long and rewarding career as the associate editor at Modern Jeweler Magazine.
Surviving are her sons, Douglas Doherty and his wife Kathy (of Milford, Ohio), and David Doherty and his longtime girlfriend Kristin Marino (of Kansas City, Kansas); three grandchildren, Makenzie Doherty, Mason Doherty and Connor Doherty; and her sisters, Patricia Callaway-Engelken (of Wichita, Kansas) and Rita Porter (of Cherokee, Oklahoma).
Joan valued her family and friends more than anything else and her faith was a very important part of her life. She loved traveling, adventure and having a good time at any gathering. She will be missed by so many people.
A service of remembrance was held on October 30, 2021, at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Prairie Village, Kansas, where Joan was an active member, with a beautiful sermon by Pastor Alix Pridgen. A graveside service was held by Pastor Timothy Roggow at the Lutheran Cemetery in Alva, Oklahoma, on November 27, 2021, at 10 a.m.
