The funeral for Florence C. Wagner, 100, of Freedom, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Freedom United Methodist Church. The Rev. Woody Hamon will officiate. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery, Freedom. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva.
She was born Nov. 24, 1908, northwest of Freedom to Chris M. and Nora Evelyn Woodard Knabe and died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Share Medical Center, Alva.
She attended Enterprise rural grade schooldistrict 107. She married John Wagner Sept. 13, 1928, in Two Butte, Colo. They farmed with her brother several years, then moved to the Las Animas area working on farms and ranches. They moved to Syracuse, Kan., and farmed for a year. In 1935, they came back to the Wagner farm. In September 1956, she purchsed the Elkhorn Service Station. In 2000, she was honored as one of the Ageless Heroes by Blue Cross and Blue Shield ofOklahoma. She was a member of Apolistic Faith Church, Elkhorn, until it closed, then Freedom United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Faith Maxine Gassett of Freedom; three sons, Buckley of Bloomfield, N.M., David of Freedom and Dewayne of Big Spring, Texas; one sister, Ruby Wheeler of Watonga; one brother, Oliver Knabe of Woodward; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, one grandson, two infant sisters and four brothers.
Memorials may be made to Freedom Ambulance or Freedom United Methodist Church.
