Mildred was born on June 12, 1913, south of Capron to Charles George and Mary Whilimena Endman Riecker and died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Enid.

She was raised in Capron and graduated from Capron High School. Mildred was a switchboard operator for Capron Telephone Company until she married Howard Veatch on July 13, 1933, in Capron. They raised their family and farmed the Veatch Centennial Family Farm between Capron and Burlington. In 2001, Mildred moved to the Jet community, and then in 2007, she moved to Cherokee Manor.

With her husband, Howard, Mildred also served as a substitute parent to many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. Their door always was open to anyone who needed a place to stay and a wonderful hot meal.

Mildred was a devoted granny to eight grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. Granny's homemade noodles, cookies, pies and crocheted afghans will be lifelong treasured memories.

Surviving are her children, Fred and Sandra Veatch of Newkirk and Mary Etta and Dean Campbell of Jet; her sister, Luella Leatherman of Clearwater, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Kyle Campbell, Troy Campbell, Kurt Campbell, Dana Ann Veatch, Michele Huston, Mary Alice Morency, Mark Longoria and Matthew Longoria; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; son, Ronald Howard; daughter, Barbara Lee; sisters, Ethel Stevens and Mary McKinney; and brother, Marion Riecker.
