The funeral for Vella Eugenia Jean Blue, 86, of Kiowa, Kan., will be 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Kiowa. Wayne Stephens, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Capron Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Kiowa. Visitation with the family will be 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. The casket will remain closed.
She was born June 4, 1920, in Alfalfa County to John Simon and Vinnie Green Gronemyer and died Friday, March 23, 2007, in Wichita, Kan.
She attended school at Centerview County school, then moved to Harper, Kan., and later to Wellington, Kan., where she graduated from high school. She married Deward C. Blue Sept. 5, 1943, in Wellington. They lived in Ohio, New York and Tennessee before making their home in South Charleston, W. Va., for 54 years. While in West Virginia, she was an active member of Darlington United Methodist Church, was a Thomas Hospital volunteer and owned a craft shop. She moved to Kiowa in July 2006.
Surviving are her four children, Judy Broce of Amorita, Dan Blue of South Charleston, Jane Thompson of Kiowa and Janet Monday of Morgantown, W. Va.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; three sisters; and four brothers.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers.
