Alva – Funeral services for George E. Uhl, 74, who died Wednesday night in an Alva hospital, will be at 2 PM Saturday in the Wharton Funeral Chapel in Alva.

Howard Anderson and Dean Hubbard of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will officiate at the rites and burial will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery.

Uhl was born January 28, 1908, near Lookout and attended Aday Creek rural school. He and Etha M. Schroeder were married April 23, 1932, at Buffalo.

They worked in a Plainview service station and later farmed in the Lookout and Freedom areas until he began to work for the state Highway Department in 1952. The Uhl's moved to Alva in 1962 and he retired in 1972.

Uhl is survived by his wife Etha of the home; a daughter, Roxie (Mrs. Kirk) Clemence, Amarillo, Texas; a son, Bill Uhl of Pensacola, Florida; four grandchildren; three sisters, Irma (Mrs. Jessie) Brunkest, Modesta, California, Grace (Mrs. Eugene) Murow, Alva and Irene (Mrs. Fred) Neukirk, Willard, Missouri; two brothers, Jim Uhl, Alva and William Uhl, Coldwater, Kansas.

Contributions in memory of Uhl may be made to the church in Alva or to the Heart Fund. The funeral home will serve as custodian of the Memorial fund.

Alva – The funeral for Etha May Uhl, 85, will be 10 AM Friday at Wharton Funeral Chapel. Billie Ann Johnson and Brenda Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery.

She was born August 9, 1914, near Plainsview to Bertha Kinnicutt and Herman Schroeder and died Monday, December 13, 1999, at the Baptist St. Anthony Hospital.

She attended Plainsview Rural Grade School and worked on the farm. On April 23, 1932, she married George Earl Uhl at Buffalo. They worked at Plainsview Service Station and later farmed in Lookout and Freedom. In 1962, they moved to Alva. She worked at Freedom School. She was a member of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter – day Saints and Lookout Home Demonstration Club.

Surviving are one daughter, Roxy Clemence of Amarillo, Texas; one son, Bill of Pensacola, Florida; four sisters, Myrtle Wasemiller of Enid, Dollie Daley of Oakland, California, Mary Howard of Ulysses, Kansas, and Virgie Brewer of Wichita, Kansas; one brother, John Delong of Tecumseh; four grandchildren; and two great – granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband on October 13, 1982, one son, one sister and five brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the church.
