Funeral service for Jared Streich will be 2 p.m. today, Sept. 10, 2014, at First Methodist Church, Alva. The Rev. Mark McDonald, pastor of Alva Friends Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva.

Condolences may be made at www.whartonfuner alchapel.com. Casket bearers are Aaron Diefenbach, Chris Farar, Mitchell Stephens, Bobby Smith, Ronnie Hoskins and Cody Smith.

Jared Riley was born in Enid, Okla., to Anita (Shafer) and Tom Streich on Nov. 9, 1991. He passed away suddenly in a car accident in Kansas on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at the age of 22 years, 9 months and 27 days.

He attended Alva School System, where he played baseball and was a snare drummer in the band. He was selected to play percussion in the K101 Honor Band four years in a row. He excelled in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

He was a color guard, obtained grade E-3 or seaman, and received a certificate of military bearing in Bravo Company when he graduated from boot camp in Milan, Tenn., in July 2009.

He received his high school diploma in December 2011. He attended the Pontiac School of Business, where he received his electrical apprentice certificate. He received an associate’s degree in Christian theology at American Institute of Theology, and was an ordained minister.

Jared was working as a journeyman for Davidson Electric out of Ringwood, Okla., to complete his electrical apprenticeship.

Jared had a talent for music at an early age. He had written and produced three CDs before he was out of high school. He had recently started performing in Kansas with many different artists; his last performance was at a cancer benefit.

He was preceded in death by both of his grandparents, Albert and Maxine Streich and Junior and Anna May Shafer, and an uncle, Jim Keigley.
