The funeral for Vallaria Darlene Province Stewart, 87, of Alva, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Bible Baptist Church, Alva. The Rev. John Clapp will officiate. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery, Alva. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva.
She was born Oct. 31, 1921, in Atna, Kan., to William and Clettie Metcalf Province and died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Alva Share Medical Center, Alva.
She lived north of Freedom and attended Woods County schools. Her family moved to Alva in 1934, and she attended Alva Public Schools. She married George W. Stewart July 24, 1937, in Alva. He died June 11, 1984. She sold Avon, delivered mail on Route 9, did housework and worked at a local restaurant. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church, serving as nursery teacher for 12 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Frances Head of Limon, Colo., and Marilyn Jacobson of Norman; two sons, Jim and Bob, both of Alva; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, George, she was preceded in death by a grandson and three sisters.
Memorials may be made to Alva Bible Baptist Church.
